Pucon, Chile is well known for its proximity to the very active Villarica Volcano. It is possible to hike to the summit from Pucon and even see lava exploding from the cone at the top. Throughout most of the year, hikers can slide down the volcano on their bottoms along hard packed snow and ice using only an ice axe for a brake.
